I'm an Australian author

pseudonym of Andrea Higgins-Wright.

Writing Australia,
Writer’s Weekly, The Grapevine, Absolute Write, Bad
GirlsPress, Writer’s Craft Web, L-Edit Slip, The
Writer’s Room Magazine, Writer’s Break, Voices
Anthology, and Arabella Magazine. |
For six years I was
editor-in-chief of a staff magazine, and I'm
currently editor for a local newsletter - that's
been happening for around three years now. I do
freelance editing and am a contracted freelance
book editor for an overseas publishing house. I'm
also an editor for a world-wide writer's
co-operative.
I've judged many
(fiction) writing competitions, and until January
2005, wrote a monthly travel article for a
magazine in the US. That lasted almost three
years - until they changed the focus of the
magazine. They asked me to stay on, but the new
subject matter didn't interest me at all,
(articles about wine - I'm a tee-totaler!) so
opted out. Until recently I was a regular
columnist for a subscription site for writers,
and have had copious articles for writers
published, covering techniques for both fiction
and non-fiction. Many of those can be found on
this site, and I'll be adding to those as time
permits. Most recently, I've joined the team at
Beginnings Magazine, which is a print magazine
for novice writers.
In addition to being
multi-published in non-fiction articles, short
stories, poetry and humour articles, I am the
author of best selling ebooks
Think
Outside the Square: Writing Publishable (Short)
Stories,
I Wanna Win! - Tips for Becoming an
Award Winning Writer
and my latest book
Outside the Square Fiction Workshop. You can check
out all my books by
clicking here.
I also conduct
online fiction workshops
when time permits, as
well as presenting workshops to conferences,
libraries, schools, and writer's groups.
My debut novel
Saving Emma
was released January 1,
2005 and was #9
bestseller (February 2005) #7 bestseller (May
2005) Publisher's Pick (August 2005) and #3
bestseller (August 2005) - all of which make me
incredibly happy. My contract with this publisher has finished,
and the book is to be re-released by
The Wild Rose Press - I don't have a
release date as yet.
Oh, and another book was released December 2005 - this one
entirely different. It's
called
A Very Aussie Christmas, and includes all of my favourite
Christmas recipes, most of which have been in my family for many
years - some for generations.
I also contributed to
an anthology about cancer
called Cancer:
A Personal Challenge.
Both my parents died from lung cancer, so the subject is very dear
to my heart. You can read about the book
here.
In addition to that
book, I've also contributed
to seven non-fiction books - six are already published, and the
other is scheduled for release soon.
Fiction on the Hop is my most
recent fiction release. My writing buddy,
Sarah Cook, and I put together
our most favourite short stories, many of them award-winners.
You can find that book at
Sarah's site, as well as
mine.
Another book is scheduled for
release Summer/Spring 2008 (US seasons). The Write Resources is a book
full of tips and resources for writers. Practically all
the resources in the book are free, and most are on the
internet. This book is to be published by
Central Avenue Press.
What else can I tell
you? Hmmmm..... maybe that around six years
ago I had not been published? Perhaps you'd like
to know that I have a debilitating lung disease
and a major immune deficiency. I have four-weekly
transfusions for the latter, and have to be
hospitalised with pneumonia at least once a
year, but I don't let any of this stop me.
If I can do it, you can
too!
